Add 1 TBSP oil to a skillet over medium heat. Then add the onion and garlic, saute, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes. Add the chopped sweet potato and broccoli, salt and pepper. Then cover and cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes, until the potato is easily pierced with a fork. Note you can add any additional spices here (cumin, chipotle powder, chili powder, curry powder, paprika, etc)
