Please note we very recently updated our website and the mobile tutorial features the old one – however the meal plan tools work exactly the same! The mobile tutorial will be updated on 1/6/20.
Here’s are video tutorials for using the meal plans on a desktop and mobile! You’ll learn how to:
- Save the weekly meal plan to your own meal planner
- Double, delete and add recipes to your planner
- Use, edit, save and send the grocery list
- Keep a list of your favorite recipes
1. How to customize the weekly meal plan
You’ll still receive an email every Thursday at 12 pm ET with a link to the new plan and links to recipes. When you click on the meal plan link, you’re going to see this:
If you like the meal plan as is, you can simply click “print plan” or “generate shopping list.”
If you want to make changes to the plan, including doubling recipes, removing recipes and adding new ones in, you have to click “save to meal planner.”
Note: do not print recipes from the meal plan page. Instead, print them from the recipe link itself! This is something we’re working on fixing, for now, the best way to print is from the recipe pages themselves. Thanks!
2. How to use the custom meal planner
After you click “save to meal planner” you’ll be prompted to select a date for the meal plan to start on. Then you’ll be able to go to your meal planner.
Here’s what it looks like. The meal plan I send out will automatically show up in a grid that you can change!
By clicking on a recipe, you can change the serving amount.
To double a recipe, you have to update each serving to “2” instead of “1” on the meals you want to be doubled.
How to remove recipes from the meal planner: Click on one of the servings that you don’t want in your plan. Below the grid, a box with the title and recipe photo will appear. On the right, you’ll see a little trash can icon. Click that, then it will ask if you want to remove the recipe from the menu. Click the check mark icon and then it will disappear from the plan.
You can bulk-edit the plans on your desktop by doing command+click on the meals you want to edit! From there, you can bulk edit the serving size or remove them from the plan. This is not something you can do on mobile.
How to add recipes to the meal planner: Once you have removed the recipes you don’t want, you can add new ones to the planner. Click on “add recipe” on the left above the grid and a drop down will appear. You can type keywords into the drop down to find recipes you want to add to the planner.
Once you’ve chosen a recipe, it will appear in a small box right below the drop down. Click that box and drag it to an empty space in your planner. Repeat this process until all your desired meal spots are filled with recipes you chose.
3. Make and edit your shopping list
Once you’re done editing your meal plan, you can generate the shopping list. Click “generate shopping list” on the bottom right. You’ll be prompted to select US Imperial or Metric for measurements.
The grocery list will automatically load in alphabetical order.
How to delete and edit items off the grocery list: To remove or edit an item on your list, roll your mouse over the row of the item you want to change. On the right, you’ll see a pencil and trashcan icon. You can click the pencil to edit the name and amount of the ingredient. You can click the trashcan to remove the ingredient.
How to organize your grocery list: To move items around, hover your mouse over the name of the item you want to move. Arrows will appear and you can click and drag the item up or down on your list. This could be helpful since it will automatically generate in alphabetical order, not by category.
You also have the ability to add ingredient groups if you wish to categorize the grocery list. Click on “Add Group” on the bottom left of the list and you’ll be able to type in the category, then click to drag and drop. From there, you can drag and drop ingredients to organize your list.
You can also add ingredients to your grocery list by clicking the “add ingredient” button on the bottom right of the list.
Once you’re done editing and organizing the grocery list, you can save it or print it.
Saving the grocery list: When you click “save” a pop-up with your list will automatically open in a new tab. You may need to turn off your pop up blocker for this!
In the new tab, you’ll see your grocery list with options to email it to yourself as well as a link you can use to easily view the list on mobile.
To email it to yourself, simply type your email in the box at the top. Then click “send me this shopping list” and check your email!
4. Favoriting recipes to save for later
Now, you can keep track of your favorite WWL recipes!
Click on any recipe on my site and you’ll see a little “heart” icon underneath the rating box on the right. By the way, ratings really help us learn what kinds of recipes you like or don’t like, so don’t forget to throw us a rating if you remember!
When you click the heart icon, you’ll see a little box that says “this recipe is in your favorite recipes.” You can then click on “favorite recipes” which is highlighted in blue text to see your own collection.
You can always access your collection of favorite recipes by logging in, clicking on “Members”, then clicking the “My Favorite recipes” button.
The calendar icon: The calendar icon next to the heart is how you can add recipes to your custom meal planner. You can always access your custom meal planner by logging in, clicking on “Members” then clicking on the “My meal planner” button.
